PHOTOSHOP I FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS


Objectives:

This course is designed for photographers wanting to learn how to process their images in Photoshop CS4 to make their photos look their best. The workshop includes 15 specific tutorials - including step by step instructions and online videos the user can follow along with, There are also notes on choosing image editing software, computer hardware requirements, colour management and how to calibrate your computer monitor and configure Photoshop to use colour management. Image files and photos are provided to complete each tutorials.

Guarantee:

If you find that you are not able to complete some of the exercises, you can register for the one day Photoshop workshop offered about once a month in Calgary and you will receive a credit of $100 toward the in class course. The one day workshop costs $249 and includes lunch, a printed manual, and a DVD with all the tutorial files and movie clips. You can take the one day workshop for an additional $100 if you have registered for this online workshop. See the workshop section of this web site for the latest schedule. Why This Course

There are a number of web sites offering online courses on Photoshop, some of them charge a monthly fee to access their courses which may consist exclusively of video tutorials. What differentiates this course is that you will receive a complete set of step by step notes and files, you have the opportunity to contact the instructor Robert Berdan who is a photographer and photoshop expert, and if you can visit Calgary you have the opportunity to take his workshop in his studio and learn first hand.

Pre-requisites:

Participants in this online course require a computer (PC or Mac) with Internet access, high speed Internet to download files and request assistance by email. Participants will also need to purchase and\or install a trial version of Photoshop CS4 latest version. Trial versions of photoshop are only good for 30 days. The tutorials included are based on Photoshop CS4. Participants should have a basic working knowledge of how to use their computer before taking this course. No previous photoshop knowledge is required. If you can see the intro video clip above you will have no problem viewing the tutorial videos.

Mac versus PC:

Photoshop CS4 is available for both systems. The text instructions, screen shots and video clips used in this workshop are for PC, but if you use a Mac substitute the Ctrl key for Cmd and Alt key for Opt key and you should have no problem following these tutorials. The files are provided in a zip format that you should be able to open on a Mac. Try the Demo lesson, download the files to determine if your system has what is required to perform these tutorials.

Sample Lesson #8 Create a BW image then return some colour

Photoshop I Workshop consists of 15 hands on lessons with step by step video clips and sample images some lessons have several video clips.

    1. Introduction to photoshop and how to open image files three ways
    2. Calibrating your monitor and configuring photoshop to use colour profiles
    3. RAW workflow - introduction to Adobe Camera RAW (ACR)
    4. Workflow for JPG or TIF files
    5.  Colour correction by the numbers
    6.  Quick & Easy Photoshop fixes, Red Eye, Perspective crop, keystone
    7.  Convert images to Black and White, Sepia, colour tinting
    8.  Create BW image and return some of the original colour
    9.  Repairing images using the clone tool
    10.  Retouching a portrait
    11.  Repairing old photos 
    12.  Extracting images from their background
    13.  Simulate a neutral density gradient filter
    14.  Shadow Highlight tool
    15.  Blending photos to make a panorama.
